Homeschool Art Class
About the class:
People, places, and things have more than one purpose.
In this session series, we will consider 'purpose' and 'repurpose'. Young artists’ minds will be expanded as they explore using a breadth of materials such as pencils, various paints, and Papier-mâché to learn their 'purpose'.
We will consider the concept of 'repurpose' as young artists create projects including using natural and discarded found objects as a canvas, creating assemblages and collages, and working in mixed-media.
For inspiration we will be looking at the works of Arte Povera artists Marisa Merz & Michelangelo Pistoletto as well as Cubist Collage artists Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque and how they integrated everyday objects in their works.
About art classes at the Painted Cloud:
During each semester, our students learn about a number of artists, both historical and contemporary. They meet and connect with teaching artists and create their own long-term projects inspired by these connections. In this intimate group format, teaching artists give individualized assistance throughout the life of each project and arts investigation.
Instruction in tool skills, techniques, and project-planning strategies is a priority, while experimentation with materials is encouraged. Young artists receive guidance with how to incorporate unexpected results into their artworks and troubleshoot obstacles that arise in their processes.
Young artists truly grow in independence in this session series. They find freedom in having conversation with no hand-raising, independence in being able to get out materials they would like to use in the studio, and happiness in recognizing their own intuitive abilities in art-making and in relationship.
