Homeschool class for Intermediate Readers


This class includes group work in the areas of grammar, composition, math, and science.

Fall 2019 plans include:

  • Parts of speech

  • Capitalization and punctuation

  • Early composition

  • Literature comprehension

  • Interest-based science units

  • Strengthening knowledge of the four operations

  • 9:30a – 10a: Rolling drop off

  • 10a – 11:25a: Two blocks of Language Arts with a station break* in between subjects

  • 11:30: Snack and station break

  • 11:35a – 1p: Math and Science blocks with a station break in between subjects

  • 1p - 3p: Rolling pick up with lunch and free play.

    *station break: 10 minute breaks where kids are welcome to have a snack, socialize and use activities at various stations around the facility such as clay, drawing, yoga, reading, resting, knitting and more to decompress and switch gears in between learning blocks.

  • Mondays and Thursdays

  • From 10a - 1p with free 9:30a - 3p extensions

  • Sept 9 - Dec 20

  • And follows the DOE calendar



Enrollment is per trimester, not a full school-year commitment, giving homeschoolers greater flexibility to shape their annual calendar.

  • Fall commitment: Sept - Dec

  • Winter commitment: Jan - March

  • Spring commitment: April - June

    We define “Intermediate” as 7 + 8 year olds who are still learning to read but at minimum have some sight/CVC word reading skills. For 8 year olds who are already reading regularly and at grade level, see our “Upper Elementary Juniors” class

  • Mondays: Math Circle (logic + puzzles) ages 6 - 8

  • Tuesdays: (home) School Play ages 8 - 12

  • Thursdays: Scouts alternative, (possibly presented by Earth Living Skills) ages 6 - 8

    Basketball ages 9 - 12

  • Fridays: Board Game Club ages 8 - 12
